Awareness 4: John Kissick's "burning the houses of cool man, yeah No. 5 (hang the DJ)"

This piece was included in a contemporary art exhibit in Canada, where various Canadian pieces were compared. I follow the Vancouver Art Museum on Instagram, and when I saw this piece I immidiately thought of our project in class. Although this is not an Abstract Expressionist piece, it still demonstrates use of composition and surface and definitely color. A caption for the work described how the artist liked to make colors clash in his art and make people feel uncomfortable using different textures.  I think I can use this work as inspiration for what I'm working on now in class, as I have a lot of detail and I don't know what to do next, but I was considering a paint pour. In this piece, I actually like the dotted stencil patterns overlapping and the sharp lines in some of the pours. However, I don't think I would consider this same linear quality in my large work in class. As for dislikes, I don't really have any, since the colors go together and I like all the mark-making that is happening.
